ANZAC DAY 2021 – HOBART PARADE TO GO AHEAD

Hobart’s ANZAC Day parade will now go ahead in a reduced format.

RSL State President, Robert Dick, said  “RSL Tasmania is committed to supporting our veterans and the serving ADF.  The decision to now go ahead with the ANZAC Day parade has been made following further advice from the State Government, changing events around the country, and input from the veteran community.

“In keeping with COVID-19 safe requirements, the parade will be restricted to veterans only, and no descendants will be involved.   Descendants will have the opportunity to register for attendance at the mid-morning commemorative Service at the Hobart Cenotaph.”

All aspects of the commemorations, the Dawn Service, the parade and the mid-morning commemorative Service will be ticketed events with pre-registration required.

RSL Tasmania understands how critically important it is for veterans to be recognised and honoured for their service and sacrifice, and for Tasmanians to have the opportunity to pay their respects on ANZAC Day.

Mr Dick said he – and all veterans – appreciated the public’s determination to preserve ANZAC Day traditions, including the community’s shared concern for the health and wellbeing of the State’s veterans, many of whom are elderly and are therefore, at higher risk from the virus.

“We are taking the necessary time in undertaking to carefully plan commemorative activities which preserve the health of both veterans and the public,” he said.

“In coming weeks, we will publish more detail about the services and commemorative activities in Hobart on our RSL Tasmania website once they are confirmed.”

Tasmanians are still encouraged to “light up the dawn” as they did in 2020, commemorate from home, or go down to their local RSL service if it’s being run.
