The AFL has announced a massive line-up for the 2022 ANZAC Appeal round as part of the 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

All 10 Victorian based AFL teams will have the opportunity to participate in moving commemoration ceremonies and support ANZAC Appeal fundraising activity.

The blockbuster ANZAC Day game between the Essendon and Collingwood football clubs at the MCG, will for the first time since 2019, draw a capacity crowd.

RSL Victoria State President Dr Robert Webster OAM will conduct the pre-game commemoration ceremony.

“The MCG is a special place for most Victorians and when I recite the ode of remembrance from the middle of the stadium on ANZAC Day, and the last post plays, you can hear a pin drop. It is incredibly moving.”

The ANZAC Appeal Round 6 of the Toyota AFL Premiership season will commence in Canberra with GWS Giants hosting St Kilda at 7:50pm on Friday 22nd April.

In a wonderful boost for regional Victoria, and an opportunity for the Ballarat RSL Sub-Branch and surrounding Sub-Branches, the Western Bulldogs will host Adelaide at Mars Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Across the border in the Saturday twilight fixture, Port Adelaide will host the West Coast Eagles and RSL South Australia will award the Peter Badcoe VC medal. Saturday evening will see Fremantle host Carlton in the Len Hall tribute match, supported by RSL Western Australia.

On Sunday 24th April attention will turn to Hobart, Gold Coast and Melbourne. In one of two games of the round in Tasmania, North Melbourne will host Victorian club Geelong at Blundstone Arena from 1:10pm while the Q Clash will make for a huge ANZAC Appeal blockbuster as Gold Coast hosts Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium from 4:10pm local time.

The Sunday before ANZAC Day will culminate in the night-time spectacle of Richmond v Melbourne at the MCG starting at 7:25pm.

On ANZAC Day, the second game of the round in Tasmania will be hosted by Hawthorn with Sydney travelling to UTAS Stadium in Launceston to contest the Alec Campbell Cup. RSL Victoria will work closely with RSL Tasmania, the AFL and the clubs to make these special occasions for the Tasmanian community, the 4 clubs and their significant Victorian supporter bases.

The round six games represent the AFL’s ANZAC Appeal Round. The ANZAC Appeal round is played in collaboration with the RSL, with the games helping the RSL and the ADF to conduct commemoration ceremonies around the country and to raise profile and money for the annual ANZAC Appeal.
